A Little Bit of Politics

As usual the country's gone to the dogs at the moment with politicians trying to score points off each other over the whole yes or no to AV debate.  Both sides sicken me to be honest and even burying myself in romance novels isn't shutting out the yapping of the 'if you vote yes/no, you are an evil and sick bitch who doesn't care for her country' campaigning displayed on the advertising boards throughout the city.

I might be able to suffer it with more grace if I wasn't already cheesed off about the results of last year's general election and the utter betrayal of what I saw as a viable leader in Nick Clegg.  So far many of the new policies or ideas brought in by the change in government have affected me in a negative way.  It's disheartening to say the least.  Even more so because there's not a single thing I can do about it.  My local MP is a Tory and any communication we've had with him about the new government proposals have met with him either ignoring us or sending us a letter filled with party propaganda.

It's no wonder that I choose to immerse myself in the make-believe, in the bright, shiny and, above all, hopeful world of romance novels.  There's certainly no hope left for me and my family for at least the next four years.

That was a non-party political broadcast on behalf of Jenre who would like to say FUCK OFF to the Conservative government and their destructive policies.

  1. Amen...

I can't believe grown men have to resort to the gutter trash language that I have been hearing to get their point across - I am rightly fed up...

Don't even start me on how changes and cuts and all the other policies and austerity measures that they come up with every five minutes has affect me...

    fed up....

    Amen again...

  2. Ohhh, you can say the same to my Conservative party. :-) Our election is May 2 and If I hear one more TV ad of each saying how the other is going to make your life a living hell if you vote for them I'll have a hissy fit.

I even voted in the advance poll yesterday so everyone should stop bugging me now. Go away, it's too late, I can't change my vote and I'm not going to. I fear yet another minority government there. Sigh. Sure it keeps the governing party in check, but it also makes functioning almost impossible because they have one goal, stay in power.

Oh well, at least you have the Royal Wedding to distract you. :-P

  3. It's so frustrating, EH, because you know that there will be people who will believe some of the utter nonsense and scaremongering in those posters. It's disgusting how they are attempting to play on emotions by twisting facts to suit their ends.

I don't think there will be many people on middle to low incomes who won't be affected by all the cuts.

  4. I've voted in advance too, so I'm trying to drown out all the last minute panic campaigning.

I'm actually looking forward to the Royal Wedding. I love a good bit of pomp and ceremony and you can't get more pompous than the Royal Family :).

  5. I can't tell if it makes me feel better or worse that it's the same on both sides of the pond. I've lost the ability even to listen to local news. All the politics make me lose my mind and fall into blind rage.

*hugs* Let's go hang out in make-believe.

  6. Sorry it's bad for you guys too. It's hard to avoid anything here with the newspaper headlines getting more and more hysterical over AV or being dominated with the troubles in the middle East.

I'm actually hanging out in your make believe world at the moment cos I'm in the middle of reading The Seventh Veil - and having a very enjoyable time of it too :).

  7. Can I join you in saying "fuck off" to the ConDems? I've been on a bit of a current affairs holiday since the election, as it's too painful seeing a return to the Thatcher years but with the LibDems implicated every step of the way.

My benefits haven't been affected yet, but it's only a matter of time. With a disabled child, I feel especially vulnerable to any education and health service cuts :(

*Off to immerse self in m/m romance land* It's better than a hot bath with a tea and biscuit chaser!

  9. Ahhh Chris - none of our politician who value their seats would never dare mention religion... irrespective of which side of the fence you are on.

    no no no no

Religion and politic does not go hand in hand in this country..

  10. You have such problems too?

Ohgodohgodohgod, you've tripped one of my triggers. I dare not get started. Not about the horrific dumbing down of American society, not about corporate lobbyists and fundamentalist Jesus-channelers controlling the entire political system and methodically ruining the quality of life in this country (health care? what health care? what "justice" system?), not about the largely brain-dead and spineless media who refuse to tell it like it is. Nononono, Jen, I must get out of here!

  11. Hi Jo
I feel the same about it looking like the Thatcher years are looming on the horizon again. Everytime I switch on the news there's another headline about cuts to essential services and job losses. :(

  12. Chris: What EH said. Politics and religion are deliberately kept separate in this country.

  13. KZ: Oops, didn't mean to upset you and trigger a rant, but yes we have such problems in this country too.

I promise tomorrow I'll go back to my reviews of fluffy books :).
